Cementaid Everdure Caltite Waterproofing System for Ice Skating Rink, Cityplaza Ice Skating Rink. The engineer specified both the Everdure Caltite System and as ‘belt and braces’, a famous, bituminous membrane to waterproof this suspended ice skating rink, over an electronics store on the floor below. The Caltite concrete was to be a one piece slab, but a concrete pump failure led to a cold joint being formed during construction. Some 18 months after completion, the ice rink started a slow leak into the store below, sufficient to colour the store’s ceiling. The membrane had obviously failed, as anticipated. To repair / replace the failed membrane would have meant removing the ice skating facility entirely! But as the leaks through the Caltite slab were ONLY at the cold joint, it was quickly and easily, and very cheaply, rectified by injecting the cold joint, and the owner was saved not only the massive cost of removing the ice rink facility, but also saved the cost of loss of revenue! Another proof of the reliability of the Cementaid Everdure Caltite System. Again.
