The Port Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas (better known as PTP) is a major hub in Southeast Asia, and has a capacity of 8.4 million, twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) per year. The Problem Unfortunately, the previous 12 operational berths which are continuously exposed to seawater has been a constant concern to the PTP maintenance department. The Solution In view of the recurring maintenance problems plaguing the existing marine concrete structures, the Consultant, AECOM which was commissioned to provide multi-disciplinary consultancy services for the detailed survey, engineering design and supervision of wharves for the development of Phase 2: Berth 13 & 14 where AECOM’s key role in design optimization enhances the design aspects and construction works as well as providing potential cost savings to PTP has decided to use a time-proven HPI integral waterproofing concrete admixture to eliminate corrosion and PTP’s long term ownership costs for the service-life as well as maintenance-free structure of their new berths, namely the 3CC System. Cementaid’s 3CC System concrete prevents all the 11 mechanisms of corrosion to reinforced concrete from occurring for design and service life of the concrete structure. Relying on 3CC concrete, today’s owners are able to build enhanced performance marine structures faster, at a lower cost than trying to make old past conventional protection works, more profitably and far more safely with the support and backing of the Cementaid Group’s more than 50 years of successful track record of preventing corrosion in marine environments around the world.
