Lake Silver is a joint property development by MTR (Mass Transit Railway) Corporation and Sino Land one of Hong Kong’s major property developers. Lake Silver, located in Hong Kong’s Sha Tin District, is built on the massive podium level covering the Wu Kai Sha Station. The project covers an area of 370,000 square feet (34,000 m2). Lake Silver is divided into Shopping Centre, Commercial and Residential areas. The developers chose the Cementaid Everdure Caltite System to eliminate all conventional membrane ‘waterproofing’ from the design and construction of the massive podium deck, which includes a spectacular number and variety of suspended swimming pools, fountains and other water features. The penthouses also used membrane-free, Everdure Caltite System in their private pools. The podium used 4,682.3 cubic metres of Everdure Caltite System concrete, and the contractor benefited hugely by the ability to use the Caltite podium as a works platform without affecting the integrity of the Caltite concrete waterproofing during the construction of the rest of the project. This enabled very rapid construction with none of those delays normally suffered by the old, conventional membrane ‘waterproofing’. And for the owners and occupiers of the Lake City, the effect of the Everdure Caltite System is permanent and there will be no need to replace the ‘waterproofing’ at any time in their development’s design-life future.
