The Project Menara AIA was redeveloped in 1997 and completed in the year 2000. This 30-storey office building serves as the headquarters of American International Assurance Bhd. The company began operations in the country in 1948. It is a member of the AIA Group, the leading life insurance company in Asia. Design Constraints Once completed, Menara AIA will be recognized as one of the landmarks of Kuala Lumpur City Centre, it would definitely be an eye sore to have leakages in the basement especially with AIA’s well respected customers visiting the building, hence, tarnishing AIA’s reputation. Therefore, this building’s basement, having such a high water table, the owner need to have a permanent and reliable waterproofing system in place where should a leakage is identified, it would only be a localized problem and easily repaired in a short time and most of importantly, the leak do not spread to other locations. The Solution As a result, Cementaid proposed to use Everdure Caltite System (Hydrophobic Poreblocking Ingredients or HPI) to be dosed into the concrete. Everdure Caltite System can make the whole concrete to be hydrophobic and able to control the water absorption properties of the concrete to the lowest i.e. constantly <1.0% tested under BS1881: Part 122: 1983 ed.
