THE PROJECT: Singapore’s Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) involves constructing 12km of six lane highway to connect the East Coast Parkway with the north of the island at Tampines Expressway. The US$675 million project by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore includes approximately 8.5km of main cut-and-cover underground tunnels, eight interchanges and six ventilation buildings. Construction on the expressway started in the year 2001, and was fully completed in 2008. This project (underground portions) was sub-divided into 4 packages. Namely C421, 422, 423 and 424. Cementaid was partial involved in C421 and C424. Solutions: Obviously, integral admixture system has an advantage in this scenario. While combining concreting and waterproofing program together, no construction time on waterproofing item is wasted. Moreover, when all the structural members are constructed, all the outstanding recesses or box-outs required only a simply reinstatement through cementitious grouting is suffice. It makes the construction sequence to be smoother and faster than all the conventional way of waterproofing choices. In order to save construction time and avoid all tedious detailing in applying membrane, in C421 and 424 packages, Cementaid proposed and supplied Caltite® System to top 300mm layer of the base slab as waterproofing layer.
